Denny Bales
The natural arabesques found within a slab of wood can both confound and delight the human eye. Alongside Denny Bales’ visual grammar, these pre-existing grains and patterns begin to yield an optical illusion. His work—comprised simply of wood, paint, and pyrography—combines antiquated textile patterns with a contemporary visual language. Equally interwoven and psychedelic, his kaleidoscopic wooden tapestries offer a counterpoint to the existing melodies and refrains found in wood.
