FOR ARTISTS
Offering support and space to artists
We build relationships with artists for a range of opportunities across our annual season, extending a mix of resources such as presentation space, curatorial support, direct funding, and more.
We welcome submissions from a diversity of artists at all stages of their careers. Introduce yourself and your practice using the below form:
Artist Opportunities
- We strive for a balance of four curated solo, small group (duet/trio), and group exhibitions across our exhibition season, along with a mix of local and visiting artists.
- Shows last approximately 6–8 weeks each and typically run from September to November, November to January, January to March, and April to June.
- The cost of presentation space is covered by Compound YV Foundation and is staffed up to 3 days per week, Friday through Sunday, 12–5, and by appointment during exhibitions.
- Each show begins with an opening reception hosted by Compound YV Foundation.
- Artists are invited to gallery-sit during their shows on a volunteer basis, logistics permitting, as another opportunity to connect with visitors.
- Additional programming invites the public to engage with shows through events such as artist walkthroughs, film screenings, music performances, artist dinners, and more.
- Marketing includes Compound emails and social media posts, physical flyers, and regular promotion in local news outlets (Pioneertown Gazette, z107.7, Other Desert Radio, Hi-Desert Star, and Palm Springs Life).
- Curatorial support includes pricing consultations, artist bio and statement writing assistance, professional documentation (funding pending) and exhibition layout suggestions, as well as personal outreach to our network of past and prospective clients and other professional contacts.
- Invitation to participate in our Art Personals podcast.
- Centering local artists, our Compact Residencies take place over summer months when our space has historically been closed.
- Looser, more experimental format is designed to be more artist-driven than gallery-driven.
- Lease-to-own program where selected artworks are loaned for a recurring monthly fee to prospective clients engaged in vetted interior design projects.
- Artists earn passive recurring income and their works are positioned to sell over time.
- Optimal for pieces that are currently in storage or, following an exhibition, works that aren’t needed back immediately or that may be cost-prohibitive to ship.
