We invite you to attend forces that love me, a movement-based performance-in-progress by Stephanie Zaletel, an artist originally from the Mojave Desert region of Las Vegas, NV. Zaletel’s CalArts Master’s thesis explores the intersection of ecology and movement through ecosomatics, an emerging interdisciplinary field that can be viewed through both poetic and scientific lenses.
Their site-responsive dance work investigates the relationship between the human body and organic/inorganic landscape, framing the land and architecture itself as an active audience. In dialogue with Compound YV's exhibition, Waiting for the Wind, Stephanie presents a performance score in progress that prioritizes breath expression, humming, and song as the anchor and engine for all movement and the body's capacity to “do hard things.”
This solo is a meditation and exposure of the limitations and full expressions of this body — my body in attunement with yours, and the land, and the space we share. We will open this performance with a 15-minute somatic breath offering.
